Red Fort
Built in 1648 by emperor Shah Jahan, the Red Fort was the seat of Mughals for over more than two centuries. Red sandstone cover the historic Red Fort, which still houses artefacts, which will take you back into past. A Bazar, known as Chhatta Chowk is also an attraction for souvenirs. The Red Fort, with all its impressive architecture and rich historical value, is definitely one of the scenic places in Delhi.
Qutub Minar
Delhi has several tourist attractions which are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. This Minaret is the tallest Minaret of India. Qutub Minar was built in the year 12th century, predating Red Fort. This five-story and 70 metre tall structure is a pride of Indian architecture. The Qutub complex has several other historical attractions ranging from Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid to the tombs of Altamish, Alauddin Khalji, Imam Zamin, and the Alai Minar.
The Lotus Temple
A Bahá’í House of Worship, this architectural beauty was constructed in 1986 resembling Sydney’s Opera House. However, this place of worship is bereft of idols or religious artefacts. The beautiful marble structure on lush green gardens with a collection of pools is a peaceful view for your eyes.
India Gate
India Gate is definitely among the famous places which has impressive structure, it had been constructed for soldiers of World War I. An eternal flame that never goes out pays homage to the Indian soldiers of World War. The walls are inscribed with the names of those soldiers who died in the great war. There is also a decorated parkland and memorial open for public.
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid was constructed in 1658 by emperor Shah Jahan. The Jama Masjid is one of the biggest mosques in India and another name on the list of Mughal architecture of Delhi. This red and white marble Mosque can give you some amazing views of Old Delhi from its minarets. The Bazaar area of Jama Masjid has some of the most delicious eateries of Old Delhi. However, if someone wants to view the skyline of old Delhi, he/she can opt for a ticket to climb on a minar.
Akshardham Temple
The Hindu temple is comparatively a new site of worship in Delhi. Akshardham’s construction and architectural style reflects past styles. This massive temple shows detailed intricate carvings on pink sandstones which gives out a soothing hue to your eyes. There is a theatre dedicated to show animated performances for enthusiasts.
Jantar Mantar Observatory
Jantar Mantar Observatory is for science geeks. This 18th CE observatory was made by Maharaja Jai Singh I. The Observatory contains the oldest methods along with instruments used to observe astronomical bodies in space. People will learn about the movements and history of astrological bodies. The complex contains the Prince of Dials which is a massive sundial to predict daily time.
The National Museum
The National Museum in New Delhi is a more recent construction, but it houses the rich cultural and historical past of India. The museum’s galleries hold various artefacts, including old jewels, archaeological findings, instruments, vessels, statues, tapestry, and more. The paintings and textile galleries are a sight to behold.
National Gallery of Modern Art
The National Gallery of Modern Artis a must-visit tourist place in Delhi. The art gallery was established under the GOI. The Gallery contains over 14,000 art pieces. The oldest art pieces in the National Gallery of Modern Art belong to the 19th century. Famous artworks of Raja Ravi Verma, Rabindranath Tagore, Thomas Daniell, Abanindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, and Nandalal Bose can be found here.
Connaught Place
Another affluent place in Delhi, perfect for marketing and taking a relaxing stroll through the city. Connaught Place houses international brands, perfect for shopping. Additionally, it contains some of the colonial buildings and oldest shops in Delhi. You will also find plenty of amazing restaurants serving international cuisine as well as national delicacies.
Chandni Chowk
Chandni Chowk boasts a spectacular marketplace. If you are tired of visiting monuments, this historic bazaar offers ample shops for a wonderful shopping spree. You will find displays of fresh masalas, species, jewels, clothes, etc. There are also a number of famous stalls and eateries selling authentic street food and articles.
Hauz Khas Village
If you have lived in Delhi, Hauz Khas is a place where modernisation meets history. The Hauz Khas Fort is a major fort and contains the tombs of royalties from 14-16th CE. Rulers of the Tughlaq dynasty have their places here. The Hauz Khas Village is also the hub of city’s nightlife. Numerous posh nightclubs, bars, pubs, and restaurants dot the entire place. It is the perfect tourist place in Delhi to have the best of both worlds.
