Festivals in Arunachal

In the vibrant state of Arunachal Pradesh, a unique diverse culture is followed within tribes. They have their beliefs, tradition which forms a dynamic culture of Arunachal Pradesh. Tradition and distinct belief is crucial to communities in this part of India.

Festivals are the real essence of every culture. Arunachal offers a plethora of festivals, courtesy of different communities. These festivals falls on essential dates, agricultural seasons, beliefs and festivities.

Ziro Festival of Music

Music admirers, take note of Zero festival of Arunachal Pradesh. A Festival of music in Arunachal. Sunburn Music festival’s venue is the Ziro valley. People gather here to witness national, international, and many folk artists who perform at this festival. The Festival of Music is a very versatile event, it features the folk culture of Arunachal Pradesh. The festival takes four days. On this time, people enjoy live music and listen songs. Ziro valley has scenic aura. One can enjoy both art, nature and food combination at this festival.  

Boori Boot Festival

Boori Boot, a festival that celebrates good harvest. Hill-Miris in the Upper Subansiri and Lower Subansiri district is the node of this festival. The festival lasts for three days in February. The Boori Boot festival contains a message, irrespective of their caste, religion, and age, people celebrate spring. They pray for blessings from the spirit of Boori Boot for prosperity & health.

Pangsau Pass Winter Festival

An event celebrated at Nampong of Changlang district for 3 days in January. Folk dance performances, folk songs. articles made out of Handloom & handicraft exhibition are here on this festival. Further, the festival also shows a glimpse of culture or rich essence of eastern regions.

Siang River Festival

It shows communal harmony within Arunachal Pradesh, Siang River Festival happnes in December. Earlier it was held inside Tezu and Pasighat district, later from 2005, it was celebrated in Tuting, Yingkiong as well as in Pasighat. Eco-tourism in the region covers many adventure activities which happens in the festivals days like elephant race, traditional boat race, River rafting, Hot air balloon, Folk dances, Cultural Shows and paragliding. An exhibition of handloom and handicrafts is also set here where you can buy quality products. Moreover, it is still the most important festival celebration at Arunachal.

Sangken Festival

Being celebrated all over the state with faith. A three day long festival in the month of April begins with from bath to Lord Buddha and after that sweets and gifts are distributed to each other. Further, people offer prayers, beat drums and gongs. During the festival days, people sprinkle clean water on each other, which is a symbol of peace and purity. The festival is mainly celebrated under Khampti tribe of Lohit district, which is the oldest tribe in Arunachal Pradesh. It is a great event in Arunachal Pradesh for witnessing the customs and ethnicity of tribes.

Solung Festival

An agriculture event celebrated within Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh in the monsoon season. The 10 day long festival celebrated in Arunachal includes East-West Siang district and Lower-Upper Dibang Valley. In this event, people present gifts of Apong, a typical rice beer & meat to their relatives & neighbors. Further, the most peculiar thing about this festival is that it has different celebrations each day. You can also take a glimpse of the unique culture and lifestyle of these tribes. A major & unique festival, Solung in Arunachal has its own significance among all other festivals.

Dree Festival

A crucial part of the Apatani tribe at Lower Subansiri, celebrated with great zeal and much enthusiasm. It is for Tamu, Danyi, Metii, and Harniang, these are deities of high religious value among people. During the festive days, people sacrifice fowls, eggs and animals to the Gods. A statue, made out from beer called Apong is prepared at each residence for offering.
