Angkor Wat 

This can be accessed via Siem Reap. The temples of Angkorian period were ambitious that even after so many years of abandonment, Angkor Wat is a jewel of ancient times.

From 802 – 1432, it remained the largest city in medieval time. A ruling stronghold for ancient Khmer kings, they outbid all of their predecessors in excellence of archetecture. Angkor Wat remains a biggest religious compound. it is a sprawling circuit of temples which needs 3 complete days to understand Angkorian period. For explorers, a list of main attractions are here-

Prasat Preah Vihear

Angkor Wat may gain all the glory, but Prasat Preah Vihear wins the prize for a most dramatic site atop the Dangrek Mountains, on an escarpment with dizzying view to the fertile plains of Cambodia. Prasat Preah Vihear consists intricately carved pavilions linked with long causeways. The temple is snug against Thailand, which reamined a point of contention.

  • Access is via Sra Em, even explorers come in a trip after making trip to Siem Reap (200 km south).

Battambang

Phnom Sampeau, Phnom Banan and Wat Ek Phnom are really close. A bamboo Train – a single-line rail track where carriages of wood & bamboo runs from east bank. Battambang is a rather sleepy city compared to capital, where brimming colonial buildings are at the central district.

Northwest Trip

Angkorian king – Jayavarman VII, made contributions by intricate spiritual sites, temple & stone reliefs at northwestern regions. All bas reliefs depicts Avalokiteśvara on the southern wall & the dizzying array depicting old ancient scenes from battles in the eastern walls. The village neighboring an archaeological site has homestays. Otherwise, people like to stay in Sisophon at 60 km south from where you can take trip to the ruins from Siem Reap.
