Even though Saraighat Bridge had more than 6 years of existence in 2023. Saraighat has historical significance as a spot of warfare between Ahoms and the Mughal Forces.

A designed under B.C. Ganguly, it started in 1958 & was opened for traffic in 1962 by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Built immediately after the Indo-Chinese war it is a double decker bridge which is around 2 km long with NH 31 & NH 27, which run on top of railway. It costed a total of Rs 10.65 crore, and length of the bridge is 1492 (1.5 km). The road is 24 feet wide & with six feet wide foot path on both sides.
