Ima Keithel, Imphal

Kangla Fort, Imphal

Till 1891, Kangla was a stronghold of natives rulers of Manipur. Kangla fort has a temple (Govindajee Temple), a Victorian era Museum, inner and outer moats which are worth exploring. A tall mythological statue of Kanglasha is on the entry gate.

Location: At Imphal-Jiribam highway.

Loktak Lake, Bishnupur

One of the major highlights of Manipur is Loktak Lake, which is a top attraction within local as well as foriegn tourists. A floating lake with an area of 240 sq km. Loktak is called phumdis and is a lifeline for fishermen.

Location: At Bishnupur, about 53 km away from Imphal. It is easily accessible by road from capital as well as Bishnupur.

Keibul Lamjao National Park, Bishnupur

Keibul Lamjao National Park – a floating park in Loktak Lake. Spreading in 40 sq km, Keibul Lamjao features a unique wetland ecosystem and host of wildlife species which is a treat for wildlife enthusiasts. The last habitat for brow-antlered deer, aka a wild dancing deer of Manipur.

Location: At the south western part of Loktak, Bishnupur of Manipur. It is at almost 7 km from the lake.

 Rasmancha Temple, Bishnupur

Displaying the rich heritage of Manipur, Rasmancha is a brick temples, that has stood a testimony of time. This attraction in east features pyramid structure with terracotta, motifs & nice arched galleries that fascinates historians. Rasmancha was commissioned via Malla King in 1600s in Ras Festival of Manipur.

Location: This treasure is at Bishnupur.

Dal Madol, Bishnupur

An ancient cannon which was built in 1742 at the reign of Raja Gopal Singh. He commissioned this cannon to protect Bishnupur from constant attack of Marathas in his kingdom. Huge iron cannon ( 3.8 m long ) having a barrel ( 28.5 cm long ) is in the top attractions.

Location: The cannon is established close to the famous Chinnamasta Temple in Bishnupur.

Shree Govindajee Temple, Imphal

A significant Hindu temple sites in Manipur, Shree Govindajee Mandir is a Vaishnava temple visited via many devotees. Govindjee temple was built in 1846. It faced a massive destruction in an earthquake. Maharaj Chandrakirti (1859 to 1856 AD). rebuilt Shree Govindjee Temple. Since then, this quintessential mandir has remained the most prime attraction of Manipur.

Location: In Kangla Fort Complex in Imphal.

Manipur Zoological Garden, Imphal

Zoological Garden is a treat of wildlife. Species of birds and exotic wild animals invites you for spotting Leopards, Bears, Flying Squirrel, Pythons, Hoolock Gibbon, Eld’s Deer and animals living in wild habitat.

Manipur State Museum, Imphal

Manipur State Museum is best to catch a glimpse of the past and culturally vibrant eastern paradise of Manipur. Museum got inaugurated in 1969 by Indira Gandhi and houses galleries where a wide range of ancient artefacts and antiques got displayed.
