Nagaland, Meghalaya & Assam

Day 1

Arrival in Assam

On your first day you can explore the Tea gardens of Assam while driving towards the historic Sivasagar. From Guwahati City, it will take 3 Hours to arrive at Sivasagar. Make sure to have a glimpse of some of the famous historical sites of Sivasagar.

Day 2

Mon – Nagaland

The distance of Mon from Sibsagar is around 180 Km. During early hours after passing through requisite checking formalities at the Inter State Border of Assam & Nagaland, you will visit Phuktong village which can take around six hours. The Phuktong village has two great domitories for men, the Nagas call them “Morungs”.

In the afternoon, visit Angh or the chief’s residence. You can opt for a stay in a typical Naga house while relishing authentic Naga cuisine.

Day 3

Longwa Village

The Konyak tribe inhabits in Longwa & nearby areas. It comprises one of the biggest chunk of Mon district inside Nagaland. One of the interesting stuffs about Longwa is that the Longwa village is at the Indo – Myanmar Border.

One of the interesting facts to see here is the chief’s residence, which falls on the Indian controlled territory together with the neighbouring country of Myanmar. While another amazing feature of Longwa is that the Angh’s jurisdiction or the chief’s control extends to Arunachal and Myanmar. You will truly witness the old practices of Konyaks like keeping skulls gained through inter tribe clashes. These skulls are regarded as trophies as per their tribal customs. Another feature is the traditional house of Konyak Naga which should be explored while you are staying in Nagaland which remains an amazing frontier of India.

Day 4

Mokokchung

Mokokchung remains a picturesque cultural center of the Ao tribes. It could take around six hours to reach there by road. On your way, Chuchyimlang and Mopunchyukit are some of the points to visit to pray at one of the oldest churches of this region. Transfer between Longwa and Mokokchung could be a hectic 180 Km long ride.

Day 5

Kohima

It would take around six hours to get to the Kohima city by covering a distance of 180 km. Visit the Wakha village, which is home to the tribe of Lotha.

Day 6

Kohima Excursion

The Kohima excursion begins with Khonoma that is located around 20 km west of Kohima. The Khonoma is the county of Angami tribes that is famous for having vibrant customs, courage & valour. Angami Naga protected numerous Naga villages. The gate of Khonoma depicts the advent of Britishers on the hills of Nagaland

  • Visit the War Cemetery commemorating memories of the soldiers of second World War.
  • Explore the Museum to see rare collection of articles from various tribal communities of Nagaland, telling the history and long-age traditions of Naga.
  • Explore Kigwema also known as Kepfiizha and Jakhama. Later, have your lunch at the Dimori Cove which is a resort of Touphema, which is solely operated by Angamis.
Day 7

Kaziranga

The distance between Kaziranga – Kohima is around 230 Km which would take 7 Hour. Take rest, as you have travelled a long distance.

Day 8

Kaziranga Safari and transfer to Shillong

Wake up early amidst the sound of chirping birds. Soak the aura of Kaziranga and prepare yourself for the Elephant safari covering middle or central Range of the reserve. Observe at close quarters the Indian One Horned Rhino. After having your breakfast, a jungle safari through the eastern range of the Kaziranga National Park.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Shillong for your extended trip to Meghalaya.

Day 9

Shillong

After your breakfast, visit the seat of Khasi Royalty. Another spot will be the Shillong Peak offering some of the amazing view of Shillong City. Then visit Cherrapunjee to experience the roar of Nohkalikai waterfalls. Visit the limestone caves of Mawsmai, the largest Rock Khoh Ramhah, Dain Thelen and Thangkhrang and Dain Thelen falls.

After sunset, get transferred to Guwahati to catch your flight

Day 10

Guwahati Airport

Spend your morning in Kamakahya Mandir

  • Later, catch your train or flight, which marks the 10 Day long trip to an end of the tri-state Trip.
