শংকৰদেৱ কলাক্ষেত্ৰ – Guwahati

A cultural institution at Panjabari, Guwahati, Assam. শ্ৰীমন্ত শংকৰদেৱ/ Srimanta Sankardeva Kalaksetra is named after a religious reformer. A cultural congregation for commemorating contributions by Srimanta for cultural enrichment of Assam, was built in 1990s.

Diverse communities got preserved in Kalakshetra, governed through executives of Cultural Department of Assam, under the Director from ACS/ Indian Administrative Service cadre.

The Kalakshetra is divided into several complexes including a library, a cultural museum and a children’s recreational park. A main attraction is the central museum inside the Kalakshetra which showcases the cultural articles & artifacts of Assamese community. Another thing is that the theater can accommodate 2000 people and hosts cultural programs. The Kalakshetra replicates the rural society of Assam. It is a repository of manuscripts and literature of the region.

Another section of the art complex displays a world class exhibition of sculptures. It also houses a heritage park where cable car facility is also available. Nice view of the Shillong Hills can be seen from the fields of this Kalakshetra. Bhupen Hazarika museum is a attraction. Eateries, places of worship & emporiums are within the sprawling Kalakshetra.
