Tirumandhamkunni Amma

Angadipuram, capital of Valluvanad Rajavamsham in Malappuram has Thirumandhamkunnu. Thirumandhamkunnil amma, paradevatha for the Valluvanad kings. The Nair or Chavers (martyrs) of Valluvanad participate in Mamankam, a festival held at Thirunavaya. A structure called Chaver Thara or platform of the martyrs is in the entrance of Thirumanthamkunnu Temple.

In March/ April, of Gregorian calender, 11 day-long festival is observed. Here Siva is worshipped & Bhadrakali/ Parvathy, or Thirumandhamkunnilamma is worshipped as the Supreme.

Marriage oblation (Mangalya Puja) is performed. Devotees believe Mangalya puja will remove obstacles for one’s marriage. Bhadra means cultured and Kali denotes time’s havoc on earth. Bhadrakali is worshiped for prosperity or salvation. She is the destroyer, creator, nature & kundalini. Mangalya Puja, Rigveda Laksharchana, Chandattam and Kalampattu are offerings at Thirumanthamkunnu Temple.

There are ceremonies and rituals specific to this Hindu temple that are not carried out elsewhere. The Thirumanthamkunnu courtyards are on a hilltop that provides a view of the countryside.

King Mandhata of Surya dynasty gave away his kingdom, he meditated on supreme god Shiva. For his penance, Shiva was pleased and gave him a boon at Mount Kailash. The king prayed for an idol to worship till his death. Siva gave him the most holy Siva Lingam which was worshipped and then god disappeared.
