Ranthambore Fort
A 10th CE. fort on the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, also suggested that the hill fort was actually built during the 12 th CE. for strategic location between northern and the central regions of India. Ranthambore Fort was an important stronghold. On the eve of independence in 1947, Ranthambore Fort was under Jaipur State. Today, the fort is under Ranthambore National Park.
Ranthambore Fort is located not far from the city of Sawai Madhopur, & the formation was most commonly thought to have begun in 944 CE. On that point of time, Chauhan Rajputs were ruling Ranthanbore region, and the ruler who initiated the creation of Ranthambore Fort was King Sapaldaksha. The name Chauhan is derived from Sanskrit – Chahanama. The Chauhans were originally from Ahichchhatrapura, they gradually expanded their rule towards northern India.
The Chauhans founded a number of ruling dynasties, the major ones being the Chauhans of Shakambhari, the Chauhans of Ranthambore, and the Chauhans of Jalore. During British period, princely states claimed discent from the Chauhans. Although, King Sapaldaksha is credited with the creation of Ranthambore Fort, it is sometimes suggested that the rigid stronghold was formed under King Jayant, a Chauhan King on 1110 CE. In any event, kings that ruled over Ranthambore, added structures in Ranthambore fort.
