Hornbill – Nagaland

The Hornbill festival is organized every year by Nagaland Tourist Department along with Nagaland State Government inside a heritage village for 10 days in December’s first week. The village is below the range of Mount Japfu, designed to give it an authentic feel of ancient Naga. The carnival is entitled in the name of Hornbill bird. This forest bird is a part of the customs of Naga tribes.

This celebration unites the people of Nagaland to promote rich diversity of their culture. The lively folk dance and traditional songs engross the whole arena. The occasion of this inter-tribal interaction provides the opportunity for understanding food, customs & deep Naga traditions which are exhibited with efforts that results in a big achievement of dignifying North East states at the global outline.

How to Reach the Venue of Hornbill Festival

About 12 km from Kohima lies The Heritage Village of Kisama. Shared and hired taxis from Dimapur junction will take 3 hours in total to reach Kohima town. Kohima is a well connected, accessible and more reliable road connection, that will make the journey easier for travellers willing to reach Kisama village.
