Things not to miss in Amer Fort
Amer being an ancient fort city showcases a lot of historically significant places. Some of the known spots which can be found are –
Diwan-e-Aam of Amer Fort –
A hall where kings would’ve attended grievances. The pillars inside the Diwan-e-Aam gives character to this hall. The point worth noticing is that Diwan-e-Aam has dual elephant fixed atop the pillars.
Sila Devi Temple –
Sila Devi temple with ornated doors is dedicated to Kali or Shakti. The stone idol came from Bengal – where the worship of Kali is worshiped. You will always find Shakti Temple in a traditional fort. Even 6th BCE ruins of Kapilvastu reveals signs of worshiping female form of divinity.
Jaleb Chowk –
Once you climb the mighty wall of the Fort, you would enter the fort through the Sun Gate. In the courtyard, there is a saffron (Kesar) garden in the middle which shows an attempt to grow Saffron in Rajasthan.
Ganesh Pol in Amer Fort –
This is the real entrance to the private areas of Amer Palace. The frescos on Ganesh Pol are the wonderful segment showcasing Lord Ganesha which can be witnessed at the Fort. The walls and ceilings are painted with floral motifs and frescos show floral motifs, showcasing Mughal and English influence in the choice of colours – (Pastels). The Amer Fort represents the fusion era.
