Unique Meteora
The monasteries look as if it is suspended on air, which was purposely made for protecting Orthodox hermits & monks. These orthodox pattern got space within the high cliffs of huge rock pillars. Meteoran landscape
Rising from plains of Thessaly in mainland Greece, Metéora is a mesmerizing set of vertical rocks, reaching at 300m high, which were twisted in formations. The biggest among these are Great Metéoron, by Athanasios the Meteorite in 1356. In the 2nd half of 14th century by his disciple Ioasaph, son of Serbian King Simeon.
Amazing Heritage in Meteora
Icons, gold-embroidered and wood carved depictions, manuscripts, codices, incunabula, authentic national heirlooms, liturgical utensils for worship, items of daily life, modern works along with rare religious art presents Meteora’s unique name given to this orthodox region – “suspended in the air”, an extreme spiritual achievement, which describes a main feature of orthodox sites, that were built in pillars of stones. The Holy Monastery of Transfiguration of Jesus got founded in mid 14th CE. via Holy Athanasios the Meteorite, founder organizer of Monastic Coenobium.
