Even though Saraighat Bridge had more than 6 years of existence in 2023. Saraighat has historical significance as a spot of warfare between Ahoms and the Mughal Forces.

A designed under B.C. Ganguly, it started in 1958 & was opened for traffic in 1962 by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Built immediately after the Indo-Chinese war it is a double decker bridge which is around 2 km long with NH 31 & NH 27, which run on top of railway. It costed a total of Rs 10.65 crore, and length of the bridge is 1492 (1.5 km). The road is 24 feet wide & with six feet wide foot path on both sides. New three-lane concrete road is inaugurated in 2017. Lachit Borphukan Park is at the south end and Chilarai Park is at the north end of the bridge. The vast view from here is quite breathtaking.
