Kottayam’s Ettumanoor

An ancient auspicious Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple has a beautiful fresco of Shiva Thandavam. Presently it is administered under Trivandrum Devasom Board. The temple is at Ettumanoor Taluk, Kottayam of Kerala.

Shiva is worshiped here as Ettumanoor Appan by Hindu Keralites. Inside this temple, Linga is worshipped, a form symbolizing fertility, famous among Shiviates sect of Southern India. The rituals and prayers begin at 4:00 Hrs as Nirmalyam and ends with Athazha Sreebali around 8:30 Hrs. The rituals are attended and observed through a number of dedicated devotees.

The Thiruulsavam is the main festival of Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple, celebrated on the month of November with cultural events on the temple complex. Special rituals conducted in this temple are witnessed by lakhs of devotees. Apart from the festivals, the Shivarathri encourages many devotees to participate in the ceremonies/ rituals of Ettumanoor Temple.
