Mekong Cruise –
The traditional style boats of Laos made of hard timber and capped with thatched roofs is the ultimate vessel that invites you to discover the secrets of the upper Mekong. Accommodating only few guests, the boat sails between Luang Prabang and Mekong, stopping at villages to get a view on attractions along the way in accordance with the whims and wishes.
Day 1: Meet with Gypsy’s Cruise
In Chiang Saen, get acquainted with the facilities onboard as you embark on the downstream journey towards Chiang. The cruise sails downstream to Pak Tha. A brief introduction on course will be provided, and then the river cruise will begin. The course starts with Pak Tha which is located at the confluence of Nam Tha and Mekong. This spot marks the point where the Mekong leaves Thailand-Laos border and flows towards Laos. Onboard facilities with unmatched sceneries and arrangements, while streaming down towards Bank Pak Tha for a cocktail party or non-alcoholic beverages with canapes will be there for you to enjoy during sunset.
Day 2: Towards Ban Huay Palam & Ban Kook Eak
The second day will begin with breakfast served on board. We arrive at Ban Huay Palam in the morning and will eventually visit the Khmu village, renowned for its weaving and scarf production. The Khmu is one of the largest ethnic groups based in northern Laos. We will head towards Ban Kook Eak this time to for a cocktail party with canapes and Dinner on board. *Bars remain open until late.
The journey continues to the Lao Loum village of Ban Baw, where you can witness the brewing process of traditional Laos whiskey. From more than 600 years, Lao Loum has been inhabited by three different ethnicities: Lao Loum (the majority in Laos), Tai Lue, and Shan. Over the years, ethnic people have developed similar customs, indistinguishable clothing and celebrates weddings.
While the boat sails to Pak Ou Caves, have your lunch on board. The Pak Ou Caves are one of the holiest sites in Laos, dates back to more than thousand years. The caves are carved into a cliffside at the meeting point of Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. These caves can be visited with small boats. You can get a brief description on how the cave has become an important place of pilgrimage for Buddhists. The last stop will be at Wat Dohn Kuhn where we will visit a temple.
We will disembark at around 17:30 at Luang Prabang, the tour ends here.
